1. Introduction

This knowledgebase primarily explains the charging process required to charge your 3 LED Digital Inclinometer system using its Intelligent Charger. It will also further explain issues that you might have when charging your Inclinometer and how to remedy these.

2. Charging your Inclinometer

Figure 1. Intelligent Battery Charger supplied with Inclinometer

To charge from a mains power supply, plug the Lemo plug (sleeved plug pictured in Figure 1) into the socket in the centre of the reel hub, ensure the system is turned off and then connect the mains adapter to the main power outlet. The charge indicator on the charger will then flash red and green twice, following this it should remain red. Once the charge cycle is complete this light will turn green.
It is advisable to leave the Inclinometer system on charge overnight ready for the next day if readings are to be taken, (a light on the unit will inform you when battery power is low). Charging will take approximately 12-15 hours. After this time the unit will automatically switch to trickle charge mode. This is indicated by the charger led changing colour from red to green. The system can be left on trickle charge for several days with no ill effects.

3. Possible faults with your Inclinometer charger or battery

Due to the nature of the Intelligent Charger it is able to signal to the user, using the charge indicator, if there is an issue with either the charger or the battery within the Inclinometer. One of the following will occur to signify an issue:
  • When the charger has been connected to an Inclinometer in the correct way outlined above, the charge light indicator simply flashes red. This indicates that the charger is damaged or faulty and therefore no longer able to supply a charge to the Inclinometer. If this is the case and your Inclinometer no longer charges please contact Soil Instruments to organise a replacement charger.

  • When the charger has been connected to an Inclinometer in the correct way outlined above, the charger flashes red and green twice, however when you would expect the light to turn red it no longer displays anything. This commonly indicates that the battery is now faulty and will require replacing. If you are experiencing this error please submit at ticket to the support site explaining your problem and a servicing engineer will contact you regarding returning the instrument for a service.
